Kung Fu or Wu Shu? Modern or Traditional? Performance Art or Fighting Art? What?s the Difference? and Who Cares?

For those of you whom have stayed around long enough to figure out the differences, there still may be some of you who do not know what this title means. After many years of research, study and first hand experiences I have found a lot about the reasons for training and what styles to train under. Why are we taking any type of self defense course? Why do we train in this style of Kung Fu? Why not just join the armed forces? All of these questions and many others will be answered in this article.

Kung Fu or Wu Shu?

There have been many students that asked me “What is the difference between kung fu and wu shu?” Let us first go into the translation of these words from Chinese into English: “Kung Fu” = Time and Energy. Then “Wu Shu” = War like Technique. Neither of these two words separately can be translated onto a fighting style or some type of self defense. However, placed together they represent generalized Chinese martial arts.

Kung Fu: A term normally used in the Chinese language for anyone who gains a skill through time and effort. A carpenter would have good kung fu in laying carpets, a tailor would good kung fu in sewing clothes, a fighter would have good kung fu in defending himself.

The term “Kung Fu” got it’s connection with martial arts and Shaolin in the 1960’s when Bruce Lee and other movie actors used the phrase: “Your Kung Fu is good” which actually meant that there skill was good, not to say that kung fu was there style. From that point onward most average people thought kung fu meant a type of fighting style like karate or tae kwon do.

What’s Happening With 5.1 Surround Sound Music?


A few years ago 5.1 surround sound DVD video players looked likely to become standard kit in every living room in the technology friendly world.


So now a few years on, what has happened to the original promise of surround sound music? Well the answer to that is ‘lots, but not nearly enough.’


For those that don’t know already, 5.1 surround sound is basically five speakers and a sub-woofer placed around your room allowing you to listen to music or a movie soundtrack literally surrounded by speakers. The film industry pioneered it for theatres and it then became available as a DVD player add-on for home entertainment systems.


Now at least 100,000,000 people world-wide own systems, which can and should be used for all manner of surround sound music DVDs.


I hear you say, ‘but surround sound music on DVD hasn’t really caught on. All that wire in my living room’.


Even though the consumer can buy a DVD player and surround speaker system cheaply enough, surround sound music hasn’t really caught fire yet. Why?


There are reasons why we should all remain confident that surround sound music will become more popular, but at the moment it’s still an infant child.


The amount of different DVD and surround sound formats is confusing and can be offputting.


The consumer desperately wants an end to the confusing compatibility war between different surround sound formats.


Many music artists would start producing DVDs if it wasn’t so complex, just as there are many consumers that would purchase a surround sound DVD system for the same reason. They should be able to buy a DVD player and play any product claiming to play DVDs.

What?s humor got to do with it?

Introduction:

Don’t take your self so seriously. You’ll not get out of this world alive.
One’s sense of humor involves the capacity to appreciate incongruity, absurdity, an unexpected future, a pleasant surprise, or a startle.
Humor helps soften life’s blows. For instance note the humor people express at funerals.
Participants in a seminar recently identified humor as an important coping factor. They believed it played a role in their spirituality and their perception of the meaning of life.
Nurses’ use of humor is important to foster trusting relationships with patients.

Emmett Fox:
“Cultivate a sense of humor. Look for the funny side of everything. It is always there and will help you to meet any situation. Laugh at yourself at least once before ten o’clock every morning”

Seven Benefits of maintaining a sense of humor:
Humor is infectious. When laughter is shared it binds people together. My best friend and I have been friends for more than thirty-five years and the binding force is the joy and humor we share about our lives and living.

Benefit  One – Stop taking yourself so seriously
Learn to laugh at yourself. Laughing at oneself relieves tension and gets your mind onto other issues. After a good laugh, you are lighter and more receptive to solutions. As you become aware of your own mind, you will be amazed at the humor you find in self reflection.
Find the humor in you neuroticness and your weakness.
I don’t know about you but my Universal Power has a sense of humor.
Evidence points to the fact that our moods, emotions, and beliefs have great impact on our well being and finding humor makes life much easier to live.
