Baby Boomers and Humor

Baby Boomers and Humour
Baby Boomers have had many life experiences. Some of them are good and some of them are not. However, we should write about what we know.
We know that we have been through a lot in our life time. We were kids during the fifties and sixties. This was a fascinating historical time. The Cuban crisis, The Kennedy assassination, first man on the moon, Vietnam War, American deserters coming to Canada so they won’t get drafted- the list goes on and on. The hippie era, when thousands of youths moved across the country protesting “the establishment” Kids dropped out of school in droves, and became involved in cults and religious groups. The list goes on and on.
History aside, our personal lives were filled with adventure and change. We got beat up by bullies too, we got married (and unmarried), we raised our children, we resisted killing them when they were teenagers, we had our careers, and now we are trying to retire. We spent our money, went through many recessions-then we had no money, and had to tell our darling children that they could not have a new bike because they had a new one last year. Many of our friends have passed away from non-age related diseases.
However we have met lots of characters, have had some hilarious life experiences and we need to share them in a humorous way. I attended a comedy show last week and this was gut-aching comedy. They just talked about ordinary things that happen to them everyday and put a humorous twist on it. We need to write this stuff down.
Reinventing Myself with Art and Humor

“The cure for boredom is curiosity. But there is no cure for curiosity.” I’ve certainly lived this quote. I can say that I have never been bored because my curiosity has ridden over most all my other needs and emotions. I drove my parents crazy with the “What’s that? Where are we going? How was this made? Why do we do it this way?” questions; having to be quieted with the typical parental answer of, “Because.”
I have spent my whole life living outside of the box looking at things different from others, trying to figure out why things have been done one way and why couldn’t they be done another way. For instance, when I saw a rusty toaster in a garbage can I thought, “what a great body for a doll!” Another example was a carpenter friend of mine had collected a large bin of specialty wooden pencils from lumber yards. I asked him if I could have them and turned them into a unique rustic frame for a wall mirror.
Luckily I share my mother’s artistic gift and had my fingers in different mediums of art all my life, i.e. batiking, candle making, acrylic painting, murals, graphic design, folk art design, collage, furniture making and fauxing, and sewing. However, being a single mother of two boys, I had to work in the corporate world to bring in a stable paycheck. This kept me from taking my creative interests seriously.
In 2002, at the age of 50 years old, I had some personal tragedies that caused me to have a stroke. I had to relearn to read, write, talk and walk. This forced me to slow down and reevaluate my priorities. My boys were always my top priority but they no longer lived at home. I had recently divorced so it was important to finally focus on me. I asked myself, “What would make you happy? What is your passion?”
The Health Benefits Of Humor When Traveling

Traveling makes people excited to arrive at their destinations. But sometimes the destination is not the only thing that travelers should take into account. The journey can be as enjoyable as the destination. The only thing that people need to remember is to always have fun. If you know how to have fun while traveling, then you know that traveling is more than just an activity. It is an enjoyable activity. A funny travel attitude can make any journey less strenuous. Your problems will actually be lighter to carry. Humor can aid in the promotion of a traveler’s physical health. These benefits can be achieved through the laughter that people have in a funny travel experience. Laughter as proven by studies can make the body adapt to many situations. A good laugh can make problems easier to solve, relieving the traveler of the stresses that problems bring in the trip. It also aids in the development and support of the physical health of the person.
Some things may go wrong while travelling. The possibility that a humorous travel experience will occur increases when wrong things start happening in the journey. If you have the right attitude, having fun is easy and free. Travelers do not have to pay more just to have fun in the trip. The spontaneous events that in any moment can happen while travelling make the activity more exciting. Expressing and sharing humor while traveling will let travelers be more spontaneous, less defensive, release inhibitions and be able to express true feelings. Being spontaneous, travelers get along well and easy. Travelers will have less doubt and forget prejudgments of their travelling buddies if they let go of defensiveness. Less defensiveness will in turn release inhibitions that will make the travelers relaxed with each other. And the last of these funny travel tips, is that travelers need to let go of their feelings; this transparency can make travelling relationships fun.

Didn’t the world seem a lot better during Saturday morning cartoons? There was no school, no troubles and no homework worries as cartoon humor entertained us for hours. Whenever you are lonely or sad, turn on your favorite cartoon and roll away in laughter. Remember that your responsibilities increase as you grow old, but the child inside you does not die. You can always bring that back by reading the morning Garfield strip or checking out the new SpongeBob show.

Do you know some really funny jokes of a non sexual nature?
